OLYMPIA… To raise awareness about the value of organ donation, Sen. Keith Goehner, R-Dryden, has introduced legislation to create a special “Donate Life” license plate.

“More than 100,000 people in the U.S. are currently on the transplant waiting list, including nearly 2,000 across the Pacific Northwest. But tragically, 17 people die each day while waiting for a transplant,” Goehner said. “That’s why I’ve partnered with LifeCenter Northwest to champion SB 5524, which helps raise awareness about the life-saving gift of organ, eye, and tissue donation.”

LifeCenter Northwest is the region’s organ-procurement organization. Some of the proceeds from selling the specialty plates will directly support its efforts to educate the public and conduct outreach across Washington.

“Through this legislation, we can help people understand the profound impact and life-saving potential of organ, eye, and tissue donation. Even though this bill has bipartisan support, I still need the public’s help.  At least 3,500 people need to go online and express their interest to purchase a Donate Life Washington plate, to show the Department of Licensing that the demand is there.”

“Raising awareness about organ donation is a crucial step in saving lives. Senate Bill 5524 will not only bring much-needed attention to this issue but also has the potential to change and save thousands of lives. Together, we can make a difference. Please share the link and invite others to sign on.”
