OLYMPIA… Liam Hill, freshman at Cashmere High School, recently spent a week working as a page for the Washington State Senate at the Capitol in Olympia.
He was one of 19 students who served as Senate pages for the eighth week of the 2025 legislative session.
Liam was sponsored by his grandfather, Sen. Keith Goehner. He represents the 12th Legislative District, serving Chelan and parts of King, and Snohomish counties.
“It was a pleasure having Liam as a page for this week of the session. He is very interested in the political process, and this gave him a great opportunity to observe the Legislature in action,” said Sen. Goehner.
“He was able to be a part of floor action and, with the other pages, work through a simulated bill process of their own. It was a valuable experience for him and hopefully gave him a better understanding of what his grandfather does.”
“Serving as a page creates a lifelong memory and I encourage other youth to consider spending a week being a part of the state Legislature,” he added.
The Senate Page Program provides an opportunity for Washington students to spend a week working at the Legislature. Students transport documents between offices, as well as deliver messages and mail. Pages spend time in the Senate chamber and attend page school to learn about parliamentary procedure and the legislative process. Students also draft their own bills and engage in a legislative mock session.
After working as a page for the House of Representatives in 2024, Liam took such an interest in the program and what it has to offer that he came back this year as a Senate page.
His week offered “so much information and fascinating insight into the Senate and the differences between the House,” as he enjoyed the program “just as much the second time.”
Liam is very involved in school sports and enjoys cross country, track, and baseball. He also participates in band by playing clarinet and saxophone.
His other recreational hobbies include film, music, and books, and any other media with “a good story”.
Liam, 15, is the son of Josh and Heidi Hill of Dryden.
Students interested in the Senate Page Program are encouraged to visit the Senate Page program website.
The last day to apply for the Senate Page Program for the 2025 session is March 17, or until all available openings are filled. Applications for the 2026 legislative session open November 1, 2025.
