Rep. Keith Goehner comments on the majority party’s rejection of Republican efforts to schedule a prompt public hearing on I-2117

Rep. Keith Goehner gives an overview of a motion made during floor debate by House Republicans on Jan. 17, that would have allowed Initiative 2117 to be scheduled for a prompt public hearing in the House Environment and Energy Committee. Since the initiative has been certified by the Secretary of State, the measure is before the Legislature for consideration and can be scheduled for a hearing at any time.

House Republicans believe lawmakers have both a constitutional responsibility to hold a public hearing on I-2117 to give the more than 400,000 Washingtonians who signed it a voice. I- 2117 would repeal the carbon tax or Climate Commitment Act.
