Newsletter | My committee assignments for the Legislative Session

As I begin my first term in the Senate, I am honored to have been selected for three Senate committees as well as the Joint Legislative Audit and Review Committee (JLARC), the Joint Administrative Rules Review Committee (JARRC), and the Legislative Committee on Economic Development and International Relations (LCEDIR). These assignments provide an exciting opportunity to focus on key issues for our district and the state.

As the ranking Republican on the Housing Committee, my primary focus will be improving the regulatory environment, streamlining the permitting process, and addressing environmental challenges. These efforts are essential to creating more housing opportunities for all income levels.

I am also privileged to serve as the assistant ranking member on the Transportation Committee. In this role, I will prioritize transportation efficiency and improve access to rural areas within our district. This committee allows me to contribute to budget negotiations and ensure that our community’s transportation needs are effectively addressed. My background in local government gives me a deep understanding of the challenges faced by small municipalities.

On the Local Government Committee, I will advocate for adequate funding and policies that support local governments’ needs while ensuring the state’s expectations are realistic and achievable for the cities and towns in our district.

The JLARC plays a critical role in examining policy issues and evaluating the effectiveness of government programs. Having worked with JLARC during my two terms in the House, I’ve come to appreciate the high-quality work of its professional staff. I am proud to serve as one of three Republican senators on this bipartisan, bicameral committee, which provides valuable insights into current programs and inspires future legislation to improve government accountability and efficiency.

My second special committee appointment, LCEDIR, reflects my commitment to fostering economic growth and international collaboration. This committee focuses on key areas vital to Washington’s economy, such as international trade, tourism, investment, and industrial development.

The LCEDIR Committee’s work is crucial for promoting economic development, enhancing employment opportunities, and strengthening Washington’s position as a global financial leader. By staying engaged in these efforts, I hope to contribute to policies that benefit our communities and ensure a thriving economy for future generations.

I appreciate the opportunity to serve on these committees, where I can focus on issues critical to our state’s growth and the well-being of our residents. For more details on my committee assignments, please visit my website keithgoehner.src.wastateleg.org.
