One of the best opportunities the Legislature offers each year is the chance for college students to serve as legislative interns. This program places students directly at the heart of the lawmaking process, providing them with real-world experience, professional skills, and a front-row seat to how decisions are made in Olympia. This program has helped launch the careers of many young professionals in public service, law, business, and beyond.

It’s always a privilege to welcome students from our communities to Olympia. The legislative internship program is more than an academic requirement; it’s a unique opportunity to serve, learn, and grow as a leader.

Applications for the 2026 session are now open. If you are a student from our region seeking valuable hands-on experience and the opportunity to contribute to shaping the future of our state, I encourage you to apply.

To be eligible, you must be a college junior or senior by January 2026 and in good academic standing. The internship must be taken for academic credit and is open to students attending a Washington 4-year college/university, or Washington residents enrolled at an out-of-state school.

There are a few key deadlines to be aware of. Oct. 22, 2025, is the priority deadline. The final deadline is Oct. 29, 2025, at 11:59 p.m. Late or incomplete applications will not be accepted.

Applicants will need to submit a combined PDF including a 1-page cover letter, 1-page résumé, and 1-page essay, unofficial transcripts, academic reference contact information, and professional or personal reference contact information.
